Keep your dog's trip supplies in one easy-to-reach place. This checklist helps you pack for a weekend away, a family visit, or a longer drive—and decide whether a dedicated dog travel bag is useful for your routine.
Pack by task, not by whatever fits first
- Meals: your dog's usual food, a measuring scoop, treats, and bowls. Portion meals for the trip and keep food sealed.
- Water stops: drinking water and a bowl you can reach without unloading the car.
- Walks: leash, harness or collar, waste bags, and a towel for muddy paws.
- Overnight stays: a familiar blanket or bed, a favorite toy, and the accommodation's pet instructions.
- Identification and records: current contact details and any documents required by your destination.
What to look for in a dog travel bag
Compare the number of dogs traveling, trip length, and the amount of food you need to carry. Separate compartments help keep walking gear away from feeding supplies. Check the dimensions, included bowls and containers, carrying strap, and whether you can wipe down the exterior.
The Rubyloo Original Doggy Bag® in our store includes two collapsible bowls and two food containers. The supplier lists its dimensions as 15 × 13 × 7 inches, with pockets, dividers, a waste-bag dispenser, a padded shoulder strap, and water-resistant fabric. It is a bag for supplies, not a carrier or vehicle restraint for your dog.
Set up a quick-stop pocket
Put waste bags, the leash, a bowl, and a small towel where you can reach them at your first stop. Pack overnight items deeper inside. Keep food and used cleanup items separate, and clean and dry bowls before repacking.
